Applications for Bail Now to be Made Remotely

On reading the new version of Judiciary’s Better Case Management hand book, it appears that all bail applications will no longer be made with a defendant being brought to court. The section of the new handbook relating to bail applications reads that remote hearings will be the default position for bail applications in a bid to hear cases quicker and free up judges\’ time. When asked to comment about this change of procedure, Lord chancellor Alex Chalk told interviewing journalists “This government has transformed the use of technology in the justice system and the announcement today will save judges and lawyers valuable time, as well as processing more bail hearings”.

We await with interest how the Judiciary will make this work.
