Legal Challenge to ‘Encrochat Hack’

Potter Derby Solicitors are acting for Defendants charged with various serious offences based on information received following the well-publicised Encrochat Hack. We are amongst those challenging the admission of that evidence in its entirety, the complex legal arguments are expected to take some time to resolve.

The National Crime Agency has revealed that between April and June it conducted its biggest ever operation resulting in over 750 arrests in connection with drugs supply, the supply of firearms, conspiracy to murder and other serious offences. Over 250 have been charged with many cases already past the Plea & Trial Preparation hearing stage at the Crown Court. Much of the evidence is in the form of ‘encrypted’ messages.

Potter Derby, amongst other lawyers, are acting for Defendants at Manchester Crown Court and have challenged the admissibility of the downloads with the hearing due in November. The case is likely to go as far as the Court of Appeal.
